Spinal Adjustments

Chiropractic works through spinal adjustments that restore your body to its normal healthy state. Manual manipulations of the spine are performed by chiropractors to correct misalignments, which occurs when spinal vertebra become displaced in relation to their neighboring vertebra. The displacement of vertebra, while not visible from outside the body, can be very painful and even impede the nervous system causing distress and pain in other locations of the body. This adjustment of the spine is what makes chiropractors unique from other types of healthcare professionals. Through manual manipulations (adjustments) Chiropractors:

  • Reduce misaligned vertebrae
  • Relieve pain
  • Decrease muscle spasms and muscle tension
  • Lessen nervous system irritability
  • Improve range of motion
  • Enhance joint and muscle function

An “adjustment” refers to a targeted force that is applied to various areas of the spine, back, and limbs to realign vertebra and other joints. Often accompanied with adjustments is “cracking” noise, which is caused by a release of gas in the joints. While it surprises many patients the first time, it is a natural and relieving sensation. On occasion, when surrounding muscle tissues are extremely spastic or tense, a slight or brief discomfort may be experienced. With continued treatment, this discomfort is greatly reduced.

The ultimate goal of chiropractic treatment is to restore the body to optimal health, so you feel better, perform better, and live your life more enjoyably. To accelerate your recovery, other wellness treatments may be used.
