What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic TableChiropractic is a holistic healthcare approach for maintaining proper function of the body’s central nervous system. Comprised of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves, the central nervous system receives information from nerve receptors and responds accordingly, coordinating activities for all parts of the body. This includes subconscious functions such as breathing as well as muscle functions like walking or throwing a ball.

The spinal cord and nerves are the most vulnerable as they are surrounded by vertebra that can easily become misaligned and displaced, applying unwanted pressure on nerves. This results in pain and discomfort on site as well as in other areas of the body that are innervated by the “pinched” nerve.

The aim of chiropractic care is to restore and maintain proper alignment of the spine using spinal adjustments. Chiropractic is a safe, natural, and proven treatment to help you maintain a healthier, pain free lifestyle. Regular adjustments are recommended to reduce stress and nerve pressure, as well as to prevent reoccurrence of pain or problems.

Doctors of Chiropractic

Chiropractors are differentiated by their ability to diagnose and treat spinal misalignments as well as other bodily pain and injuries through manual manipulations of the spine, more commonly called spinal adjustments. When vertebra become misaligned, chiropractors are able to return them to their normal, healthy position to relieve pressure and pain. According to the American Chiropractic Association, “Doctors of chiropractic have become pioneers in the field of non-invasive care promoting science-based approaches to a variety of ailments.”

The History of Chiropractic

The formal profession of chiropractic care was established by David Palmer in 1895. However, research and the study of ancient civilization writings indicate the practice of chiropractic care tracing back to 2700 B.C. with manual manipulations of the spine and extremities to ease pain.
